Frequently Asked Questions

  • Shipping

I’m based in New York City and ship all orders from here using USPS Ground Saver (formerly first class). It takes 2-6 days depending on which part of the country you live in.

CANADA: I’m happy to offer a flat rate to Canada of $15. It doesn’t cover the full shipping but enables me to offer a better rate to my Canadian customers. Please note all the prices on my website are in US Dollars. Duty - please note this is set at a provincial level and I do not control that tax. If you check your order tracking number on Canada Post (same tracking for USPS & Canada Post) you will see any duty owing and can pay it in advance or upon the arrival of your package.

  • Is the design stamped on the fabric?

Yes, all the kits come with the design pre-stamped on the fabric in a light grey color so that you can stitch over the design and it won’t show after you have finished. It does not dissolve or wash off.

  • What threads do you include?

I use DMC threads exclusively. They are widely available and are still manufactured in France. Their threads are 100% colorfast and fade resistant and have an Oeko-Tex 100 certification, meaning they are free of 100 known harmful chemicals. (Which makes me wonder how many are there!)

  • I live outside the US, can I order from your site?

If you visit my Etsy shop you can make a purchase there and I can ship to anywhere that Etsy ships. HERE is the link to my shop.

  • What is a PDF?

All the items priced at $14 are PDF files. These are electronic files that you can download after purchase. They give you full instructions, the DMC color numbers you need to complete the design and the design itself to print out.

You will not receive a physical item. Please email me if you have any trouble downloading the design and I can email it to you.

  • What's Included in the kits?

All the kits come with a 10 x 10 inch piece of organic fabric with the design stamped on it. All the DMC threads to complete the design in the colors shown and a full instruction card.

I do sell DMC scissors, a pack of Bohin needles and a 4 inch Elbesee hoop in a separate starter kit to complement the kits.

The My first embroidery tote bag kit includes a needle and a 4 inch hoop, it’s the only individual kit that includes these items.

The Journey box includes 3 kits and a starter kit with the 3 notions.

The seasonal boxes include a 5 inch hoop.

  • Are your kits suitable for beginners, where should I start?

I recommend you start with the Stitch Garden Sampler, it teaches you 10 basic stitches and comes with an 8-page instruction booklet. I also made 10 accompanying videos you can find on my YouTube channel.

The Journey box is my best-seller and aimed at beginners as it includes a starter kit with scissors, needles and a 4 inch hoop, the Stitch Garden Sampler and 2 other kits to help you practice and progress with the stitches you learn in the Sampler. It also includes QR codes to videos for each kit and a bonus intro to embroidery video. It comes in a pretty floral keepsake box.

The other kits in my collection build on the stitches you learn in the Sampler.

  • What kind of fabric do you use?

I use organic cotton fabric that is GOTS certified, I want my kits to be sustainable and have as low an impact as possible. I choose organic fabric so that it’s production doesn’t add pesticides to the water and the people who produce it aren’t negatively affected by sprays.

The cotton fabric I use is very soft and un-dyed.

The tote bags in the tote bag kits and the tea-towels are also made of organic cotton.

  • What can you do with the finished embroidery?

This is a great question, and while there's a list of things (some I'm working on like pillow kits), it always leaves me hoping we won't miss the journey itself. Of course it's nice to have a purpose for our projects whether it's to beautify our homes or gift to others, but we may find ourselves rushing to the end, finding all our purpose in the success of the project. I hope we can also find joy in the actual making, stitch by stitch, reveling in the process itself. Intentionally bringing beauty into the world and finding rest and peace as we do it, it’s what creativity is all about. The creative process is just as important as the product itself.

Having said that, here are some other ideas: Frame in a picture frame or hoop, add to a quilt, make into a needle case, decorative pillow, a panel in a bag, decorate a T-shirt, cover a notebook.

  • Do you have instructional videos to help learn the stitches?

Yes, please visit my YouTube channel for visual help with the stitches, if you subscribe you’ll be alerted each time I add a video.

  • Do you use sustainable packaging and products?

Yes, all my fabric and cotton bags and totes and tea towels are made of organic fabric that is GOTS certified. The envelopes and boxes are made in the USA and the boxes are fully recyclable. My instruction cards are printed on recycled paper using soy inks by a small printer here in the USA. I thoughtfully source all items, and often choose not to stock items where I can’t certify the origins. There’s always room for improvement, but please know I am very careful about where and how things are made and how the people who make them are treated.
